The Story Behind

Ponduru Kh cotton, from Andhra Pradesh's Ponduru village, is India's finest handspun heritage fabric. Soft, and breathable, spun on charkhas using local cotton, it earned Mahatma Gandhi's personal admiration during the freedom struggle.

On Ponduru fabric, Pedana Kalamkari hand block print is deployed.

Pedana Kalamkari is a centuries-old hand block-printing art from Pedana near Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Artisans carve intricate designs into teakwood blocks and stamp them layer by layer using only natural vegetable dyes from plants like indigo, madder, and pomegranate. This GI-tagged craft creates vibrant, eco-friendly textiles with floral, geometric, and mythical motifs, preserving sustainable heritage through multi-step processes.
